Efficient Drainage Systems in Parking Lots (Willet Science Center, Mercer University)

As my lab assignment was to measure the lengths of the Willet Science Center parking lot to assess the reasons needed to calculate the volume of rainfall for this particularly designed lot. Water is probably the greatest cause of distress in a paved structure, and the lot sits on a slope, so when stormwater comes down, there are areas that may have the most build up of rain, causing erosion and build up of pollutants. To minimize stormwater runoff in parking lots, systems such as grate inlets, gutters, and curbs are installed a particular way to efficiently avoid high levels of water building up. Here is a picture of Willet Science Center parking lot, exhibiting where the location of the drainage systems of the parking lot.

Robert F Kennedy Jr.'s Role in Environmental Movement

With Riverkeeper Organization  and Waterkeeper Alliance being only a few out the many ways that Kennedy Jr. has helped to better the environment, these have been the most prominent, in my opinion.

As it began with a couple of concerned fisherman, Riverkeeper arose from the Hudson River Fisherman'
s Association (HRFA), which has been known as an environmental watchdog and enforcement organization since 1966. A group of blue-collar commercial and recreational fisherman who were former Marines noticed how polluted the Hudson River was becoming, so much that millions of fish were killed each day. Evidently, New York was dumping 1.5 billion gallons of raw sewage, paint and other impurities from power plants into the river everyday. Fortunately, ex-Marine, Bob Boyle found the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1888 and the Refuse Act of 1899, in which these forbade pollution of American waters and provided a bounty reward for whoever reported the violation.
From there, Riverkeeper grew as it continued to eliminate impure causes that infected the river. In 1984 Robert F. Kennedy Jr. joined as Chief Prosecuting Attorney, advancing the abilities of Riverkeeper to bring polluters to justice and maintain the well being of the Hudson River.
Aside from Riverkeeper, Kennedy is Chairman and founder of Waterkeeper Alliance, a global movement of advocates on the water who patrol and protect rivers, streams and coastlines around the world. He is also a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at Pace University School of Law and Senior Attorney for Natural Resources Defense Council. I'd say, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has done quite a lot for the Environmental Movement.
